My buddy and actor Paul Woolfolk submitted me a few pictures that he wanted to recreate for his professional portfolio. I am always up for a challenges, so off we went.
The first two were made at home. The black background is actually the curtain that separates the living room from the kitchen. With the help of a single speed light and a fabulous friend/model/assistant (and Paul’s gf) we achieve that first one. Some digital manipulation was added to match the sample picture, mainly lowering the color temperature, aka more blueish.
The second one is using a simple wall which is actually a bit more yellow in real life, but this is a quick fix in post production (select color, desaturate). The flash was once again handled by Stephanie and mainly pointed to the white ceiling for a full light. To match more precisely the sample picture, I recreated the shadow afterward.
The other ones were shot in Pasadena, with the ambient light. We even met a upcoming fashion designer while “discreetly” using the white wall as a background. You never know what being outside can bring!
